Brest Authorities Afraid Of Opponents Of Battery Plant

The documents for registration of EcoBrest were submitted on June 26.

The founding meeting of the organization of opponents of the construction of a battery factory near Brest, called EcoBrest, was held on May 26, Radio Svaboda reports.

On June 26th, the activists applied for registration to the Justice Department of Brest Regional Executive Committee. The co-founders of the Brest regional environmental public association EcoBrest were 12 activists who oppose the construction of the battery factory near the regional center.

The charter of the organization says that the main purpose of its activities is to support, assist and involve the public in solving environmental problems, as well as to protect human rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution of Belarus.

According to one of the applicants, Raman Kisliak, on July 24th, the activists were told that the request to register EcoBrest would be refused because of "the deficiencies, impossible to correct". The activists have not yet received a written refusal.
