The Wounded Belarusian Diplomat Operated

The head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry told about the operation.

Advisor to the Belarusian Embassy Aliaksandr Pahansheu, shot during the attack on July 24, was successfully operated in Ankara, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu states.

"The diplomat was immediately taken to the hospital. The operation was successful," the Minister said. The official is now in the intensive care unit, but he may be transferred to a regular ward tomorrow, he added.

According to the Foreign Minister, the attacker had no political motives. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is monitoring the situation, the minister said.

July 24, an advisor to the Belarusian Embassy in Turkey was attacked. He was shot when he and his child were coming home. The attacker committed suicide. The diplomat was hospitalized, while the child was not injured.

The attacker was a retired soldier, according to T24 and Haberturk, he was the neighbour of the diplomat and was hostile to him. Foreign Ministry spokesman Anatol Hlaz said the attacker was mentally unstable.

In December 2016, Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov was killed in Ankara. He had three gunshots when making a speech at the Center for Contemporary Art. The shooter was killed on the spot. It was a former police officer Mevlüt Altyntash. The Turkish authorities charged 28 defendants in the case of Karlov's murder, including opposition preacher Fethullah Gülen, considered to be one of those responsible for the coup attempt in July 2016.
