Belarus Blocked Supply Of Russian Gas To Vilnius And Kaliningrad

The repair of the gas pipeline has been started.

On Monday, Belarus started repairing the main gas pipeline Minsk-Vilnius-Kaunas-Kaliningrad, therefore the gas supply through the pipeline in the direction of Lithuania and further to Kaliningrad was stopped, interfax.by reports.

"During this period, the gas to Lithuania will be supplied from two sources: from the Klaipeda liquefied natural gas terminal and from Russia through Latvia," - the Lithuanian company Amber Grid, engaged in gas distribution, told the BNS agency.

The work on the gas receiving and transmitting point in Katlouka on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border will last for three weeks, until July 28.

According to the Amber Grid head of communications, Laura Schabekene, these repairs have been planned.

According to her, the gas is now supplied to Kaliningrad region of Russia through Latvia.

The press service of Gazprom Transgaz Belarus (100% subsidiary of Gazprom), which is the operator of the Belarusian section of the Minsk-Vilnius-Kaunas-Kaliningrad gas pipeline, confirmed the beginning of the planned repair on Monday. "In agreement with the Lithuanian side, the scheduled repair of the Minsk-Vilnius gas pipeline has begun today. In accordance with the schedule, the work will last until July 28," - the representative of the press service told the Interfax-West agency.

Gazprom Transgaz Belarus provides gas supply to consumers in Belarus and transit of Russian gas through the country to Kaliningrad region of Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine and Poland.
