Belarusians Launch Website About Vorsha Kurapaty

They raised the money for a domain and a hosting by a crowdfunding campaign.

The civil initiative “Kabyliaki - the Executed in Vorsha” has launched the website Kobylaki.by, dedicated to the victims of Stalinist repressions, killed in the Kabyliaki stove.

The website was created with the support of the web academy Wacademy.by, after the initiative “Kabyliaki - the Executed in Vorsha” won the contest of non-commercial projects. The project coordinator Ihar Stakkevich, whose ancestors were shot dead in Kabyliaki, told Svaboda about it.

About a dozen of descendants of the repressed raised BYN 480 to pay for the website’s hosting and domain. Now the authors of the website are working on the contents about the repressions in Kabyliaki. The first priority is to create a user-friendly search engine so that descendants would be able to find the information about their repressed ancestors, Stankevich says. The initiative continues to search for the people whose relatives were executed in Vorsha.

This year, the “Kabyliaki - the Executed in Vorsha” campaign has become a laureate of the Viktar Syrytsa award, which the Movement For Freedom has presented for the third year in a row. In 2018, the initiative got into the lists of the best regional initiatives of the Assembly of Non-Governmental Organizations and the Office for European Expertise and Communications.
