One Day With Henadz Fiadynich
HENADZ FIADYNICH

Human rights defenders made a documentary movie about the leader of the independent trade union REP.

A year ago, on August 24, 2018 the Savetski district court of Minsk made a sentence in the criminal case of Chairman of the independent trade union of the radio-electronic industry workers (REP) Henadz Fiadynich and Chief Accountant of the union Ihar Komlik, the website of the HRC “Viasna” reports.

Both were found guilty of tax evasion (Part 2 of Article 243 of the Criminal Code) and punished with the restriction of liberty for the term of 4 years without sending to a specialized open-type facility, without property confiscation, and with a ban to hold superior positions for 5 years.

Many believe, due to some reason, that the restriction of liberty without sending to a special facility is a light punishment.

“They say, you are not in prison, but weekends turn into some kind of a prison, actually. It’s like, you are waiting for the evening and Monday to come, to go to work sooner,” trade union leader Henadz Fiadynich tells in the movie.

Journalists spent one day with Mr. Fiadynich and found out for difficult it was to be jailed in one’s apartment for two long-lasting days-off, watching life swirling behind the window. For the four long years.

Henadz Fiadynich tells about the restrictions imposed on him by the court and the probation department, and speaks on whether he has any hopes for an amnesty.
