"And Then I Realized That We Can't Leave These Little Pointy-Heads In Soviet Past"

"And Then I Realized That We Can't Leave These Little Pointy-Heads In Soviet Past"

A child asking a non-baby question at a signature picket.

Famous director, activist of the civil campaign European Belarus Volha Nikalaichyk told about the unusual story at the picket to collect signatures:

- Standing in a picket near the Pervomaisky store in Uruchia - children are coming from school. Maybe the 2nd grade. One of them stopped to read the stand and started asking absolutely sincere questions.

"Why are you standing there? And what kind of elections are these? And for what purpose? And if you are elected, what will you do?"

Well, I answered with simplicity - as for a child: "I am for justice. I want children and adults live well, parents have a good job and business. I want us to have good medicine and education, so that teachers are good and interested, so that children are loved. So that the prices in the shops are modest and the food is of high quality and organic".

And then the kid was like, "Can you make sure the courts don't punish the innocent?"

I was speechless. At least 30 people a day approaches me to express their support and sign, many have already joined the initiative group - young and mature, well-educated and simple.

But then I suddenly understood quite clearly that we had no right to be defeated. We have no right to leave these little pointy-heads with fashionable haircuts and bows, with backpacks behind their backs, in the soviet past, where freedom of thought, dissidence is a crime by definition, where we need to push ourselves off the bottom of the soviet civilization - so that the children could breathe freely and live well.

It's been a long time since I've seen such adult eyes close to me. I replied to the child: "We will do everything to make you live well and happily."
