The dictator cannot find an alternative to Russian hydrocarbons.

Now Belarus buys only a small amount of Russian oil from Gutseriev's firms. The search for alternative suppliers is going on amidst disagreements between Minsk and Moscow over the price of raw materials, Aliaksandr Yarashevich writes in his article on naviny.by.

Poland, in fact, says they won't be able to supply oil to Belarus via "Druzhba" in the near future.

"The current technical infrastructure of the Druzhba pipeline does not allow the transfer of oil from the base in Adamava in the east direction, maintaining the continuity of supply for current PERN customers, who have contracts for transporting oil to refineries," - the PERN press service told naviny.by.

Oil is cheaper in Russia

The order to ensure the supply of oil from alternative sources in the near future was given by Lukashenko late last year.

Belarus used to supply oil from Venezuela, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Iran, but it is more expensive than the Russian raw materials.

According to Fitch Ratings Group Director for Natural Resources and Commodities Dmitry Marinchenko, despite the rise in price of Russian oil due to tax maneuver, it is still cheaper for Belarus - the difference compared to the world price is about $80 per ton.
