"Inspired By Attack On FSB Building In Moscow": Belarusian Explained New Year Attack On Police
ILLUSTRATIVE PICTURE

A student has thrown a Molotov cocktail at the Verkhniadzvinsk Department of Security.

The Department of Security division in Verkhniadzvinsk has been attacked. The incident occurred on the night of December 31 to January 1. A young man, who calls himself Hleb Tsikhanchuk, posted a video message in Telegram explaining the motives for his deed (he was inspired by the recent attack on the FSB building in Moscow and wanted to "encourage someone in this country to act decisively," as he himself had not found any like-minded people), euroradio.fm reports.

The 18-year-old student arrived in the district center of Vitsebsk region from Smarhon. He had the intention to attack the local police department in order to take possession of the weapon. But for some reason the guy decided to throw the Molotov cocktail on the territory of the Department of Security and called the police himself. He resisted the policemen and stabbed two of them (the policemen have already been discharged from the hospital). Tsikhanchuk was detained.

In the morning of January 1, the press service of the Interior Ministry briefly reported on the incident in Vitsebsk region. It followed from the information that during the detention an 18-year-old boy stabbed the policemen and "a check is being carried out". There is no other information available either on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs or on the website of the Department of Security.
