Siarhei Tsikhanouski's Lawyer Shared Details of Meeting with Lukashenka

The political prisoner refused to shake the hand of the dictator and be filmed by propagandists.

Siarhei Tsikhanouski took part in meeting with Aliaksandr Lukashenka in the KGB jail on October 10. Lukashenka let Siarhei call his wife. A telephone conversation with Sviatlana took place in the presence of security guards. His lawyer Viktar Matskevich told tut.by.

Siarhei Tsikhanouski said he was taken from the Zhodzina detention facility early in the morning and escorted by masked men for a meeting at the KGB jail. He was brought to the Minsk KGB and taken to a small hall. There were already plates with the names of the prisoners on the table: Babariko, Znak, Salei, Shklyarov, etc., 12 people in total. This event was a surprise for everyone.

- Lukashenka came in and began shaking hands with everyone. Siarhei avoids shaking hands; he is afraid of coronavirus. He also did not want to be filmed on camera for TV. For five hours there was a conversation with Lukashenka. He was the one to speak the most. However, Tsikhanouski tried to bring his position about detention under false charges. Taking advantage of the presence of a spokesman, he expressed indignation that the state media spread biased information about his work for the Russian Federation, the West, his acquaintance with Shklyarov, etc.," said Viktar Matskevich.

Tsikhanouski also wondered why his wife, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, was wanted and why Maria Kalesnikava was absent at the meeting. According to Tsikhanouski, Lukashenka is well aware of the status of the criminal investigation and the confinement conditions in the pre-trial detention facility. There were speculations on involvement in politics and its impact on criminal charges. Tsikhanouski realized that it would take much time before his release. At the same time, the investigation and the court will decide the fate of prisoners.

- My client stated they had some ideas regarding the constitutional reform. However, they are ready to express them being uncuffed," Matskevich said.

On the night of October 11, Tsikhanouski was in a KGB detention facility. Then he was back to Zhodzina pre-trial detention facility again.
