Aliaksandra Herasimenia: Power Must Be Changed, Otherwise There Will Be No Changes

There is a problem with the system that does not work.

Belarusian swimmer Aliaksandra Herasimenia told the Hard-Hitting News site that she has no intention to leave the country.

- Do you think that the main problem in Belarus is the power, and it must be changed?

- The problem is in the system that does not work. Yes, it has to be changed, otherwise there will be no changes. That is for sure. Young people have grown up, they have gained the right to vote in elections, and we are pulled back into the past, but we want to go to the future. I think we have all opportunities and resources for this. The IT specialists alone say a lot!

- However, many young active people, including IT specialists, are leaving the country.

- Yes, alas, they are pressed for their position and opinion.

- They say that some of our world-famous athletes may also leave the country.

- It is very easy for such sportsmen to change their citizenship. If our sports officials continue to act in the same way, they themselves will soon run, jump, swim and throw spears. There will be no one to turn out.

- Pessimistic prediction. Has Herasimenia got any optimism?

- Absolutely! I have never taken on projects that have failed. I believe in ideals, in our demand for these changes and they will happen. The authorities have lost the elections and people's trust has lost.

- Have you also received proposals to change your citizenship?

- I have been offered more than once, and with such conditions that I could become a millionaire. I have my own vision, my own position. Maybe, it sounds pompous.

- So maybe this is real patriotism?

- I do not know. I love my country Belarus, I feel comfortable here. Wherever I am, I always want to go home. But lately I wished to go away. But, as they say, that ain't gonna happen. To be honest, six months ago I was thinking about it. Now I understand that to leave means to lose. And I don't like to lose, - Herasimenia said.
