Spiritual Revolution of the Nation Will Inevitably Lead to Political Changes
Mikalai Statkevich

The Belarusian people will win.

The editorial board of Brestskaya Gazeta received a letter from one of the leaders of the Belarusian protests, political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, who has been in custody since the end of May. He wrote this letter on October 9:

"Dear friends! I received your letter and the first issue of your newspaper. Thanks! I like your newspaper. I would be grateful if I could receive during the time while I'm in such places.

I try to follow the events outside and support the heroes who risk themselves for our country's future.

Although the main thing is already obvious - a spiritual revolution has taken place in our country. The totality of individualists suddenly turned into a solidary freedom-loving society. But this transformation was the result of gradual profound changes in society that took place over a long time. Among them, I would like to note two important factors that set the direction of social evolution.

The first is the work of democratic media, including your work.

The second is examples of the selfless struggle of our fellow citizens for freedom and human rights. In recent years, an important example of such a struggle has been your city residents' protests against the battery plant.

Dear friends, I wish you strength, energy, and opportunities to successfully continue your noble and important mission!

My support and deep respect for the worthy inhabitants of heroic Brest, who continue their struggle for freedom!

The spiritual revolution of the nation will inevitably lead to political changes. The people will win."
