Leanid Zaika: Officials And Directors See Lukashenka's Power Staggering
Leanid Zaika

The growth of accounts receivable in the country may indicate an increase in corruption.

According to experts, the external accounts receivable of Belarusian enterprises have increased by almost 33% since the beginning of the year and amount to Br12.5 billion.

The head of the Strategy Analytical Center, Leanid Zaika, speaking in the Prymus program, reminded that such a situation was observed in the early 90s, when goods were massively supplied to Russia on deferred payment terms, Salidarnasts writes.

During the "star hour" of Belarusian exports, for example, in 1994, at the time of Viachaslau Kebich's reign, its volume was 75% of GDP.

Today, Zaika does not rule out, as well as then, the growth of accounts receivable may indicate an increase in corruption.

- Of that amount, one third is likely to be "grey" economy and corruption. I think everyone has already learned to play these games, especially the directors. The goods have been sold, then you say: there are debts because they do not want to pay.

And the two directors, the one who buys the tractor and the one who sells it, have agreed that they will put this money in the bank at interest, at least for a month, and so they earn," - the economist explains.

He is sure that such "corruption schemes" get especially developed during the stressful periods for the country's economy.

- When a director manages a powerful financial flow of millions of dollars, he naturally has a question, why shouldn't I earn a couple of millions!

Especially now, when officials and directors see that Lukashenka's power is staggering, as in the times of Kebich, they have decided: "Let's think about ourselves first, and then about our Motherland". In such a stressful period of time, it is quite natural.

Theoretically, I can make a forecast: that during this period, when there are exchange rate increases, inflation and all sorts of opportunities, the corruption is growing," - Leanid Zaika believes.
