Pavel Arakelian: We Were Discussing There With Confidence What Will Take Place After We Win
Pavel Arakelian

The famous musician has been released.

Pavel Arakelian was detained after his concert in Malinauka on November 7. The saxophonist has spent 15 days behind bars. In an interview with Radio Svaboda, he spoke about his impressions of prison adventures.

"The mood is cheerful and bold, - Arakelian says. - As it was two weeks ago. Even better. As if I've been to a sanatorium".

The driver, who was taking him home from the concert, informed that Pavel Arakelian had been arrested. He said in the evening of November 7 that everything had happened fast and rather tough. Pavel confirms it.

"In fact, they pulled me out of the moving car that was driving, - he says. - Along with the driver. They put my face in the sofa in the riot police bus. They took me to the police station to have a "friendly" conversation. I listened to the whole playbook. I think that now you can take any policeman, and he will tell you that if Europe comes here, there will be no Belarus; that if not Lukashenka, then who; that you, Arakelian, is all right, but all the others have been bought and paid for.

According to the musician, the riot policemen knew well who and why they were detaining. At that, they even expressed some kind of sympathy.

"They said that I had just taken a wrong turn, - Pavel says. - They asked me if I got scared. I say that I don't scare easily. Then I heard a phrase that I was lucky that they knew me. So, they said, the detention wasn't that tough".

After the arrest, the musician was taken to the Maskouski district police department, where there were journalists and girls from the March detained in the afternoon. Pavel says that the protocol was drawn up quickly, after which they were immediately transported to Akrestsina. Then he was in Zhodzinoa and finished his sentence in Mahiliou.

"In general, there are all kinds of torture everywhere, from the beginning to the end, - Arakeliyan says. - Unsanitary, lack of hygiene, toilet paper, water, human attitude. The things Alena Leuchenka told us about are everywhere. But all those who are there, all those people don't give a damn about it at all.

The musician says that he feels shame before his cell mates for slightly reducing the level of discussion in the cells by his presence.

"I know for a fact that everywhere, in all the so-called 'houses', people tend to self-educate, - he says. - The intellectuals have possibly gathered. But, to be honest, I quickly lowered all the "houses" I visited to my level. So we laughed 90% of the time when someone went to the toilet. Frankly speaking, it was like that. But the rest 10% we were self-educating anyway. We were discussing everything. It could even demoralize the other side, because the prisoners were sitting and discussing confidently what would happen when we won. What kind of reforms, everything. There is no doubt about what will happen next, how we should act.

According to Arakelian, he had been warned about possible detention. The musician can't tell us about it in detail, but he had known about everything in advance. But why the authorities detained the participants of the October yard concerts, one can only guess.

"I even tried to get an answer to this question from those people who arrested me, - Arakelian says. - I think it's some kind of playbook again. Now they are looking for some organizers everywhere. There is a conflict between the Soviet Union, which is still in power, and today's XXI century. They are remnants of the Soviet Union that simply do not understand the possibility of an idea. For them, there is only money and power. Only the primary needs, the animals. They just do not understand that there can be any other way. For them, it is possible to sell everything; they think that there are some people who profit from all these events. But they cannot find them anywhere, so they round up everyone. But there is no result. And there is no understanding. The old epoch is retreating and a new epoch is coming.

Arakelian also says that the representatives of all kinds of people are kept in the cells at Akrestsina, Zhodzina and Mahiliou. Each cell has IT specialists, musicians, doctors, workers, truckers, the unemployed and teachers.

"I am very glad that I was 'taken' after the last of the planned concerts, -Arakelian speaks about his future plans. - In this regard, I did everything I had planned. There were plans in the sphere of cultural solidarity, but now it will be necessary to do something about health. I hope it won't take much time. And I will continue what I have planned to do next. Now I will try to find bearings with the help of the news, perhaps, some more ideas will come".
