International Investigation And Economic Sanctions Against Regime: European Parliament To Adopt Resolution On Belarus Today

The joint project was signed by representatives of almost all political groups.

On November 26, the European Parliament plans to adopt at its meeting a resolution with regard to continuous human rights violations in Belarus and, in particular, the murder of Raman Bandarenka, Radio Svaboda reports.

The joint draft resolution has been signed by representatives of all political groups of the European Parliament except for the right radical group "Identity and Democracy" and the left radical group "United European Left / Green Left of the North".

The proposed draft resolution, among other things, says that the European Parliament:

- condemns in the strongest possible terms the murder of Raman Bandarenka and expresses its sympathy to his family and the families of all those who lost their loved ones as a result of repression on the part of the Lukashenka regime.

- demands an immediate, thorough, impartial and independent investigation into the death of Raman Bandarenka and the deaths of Aliaksandr Taraikouski, Aliaksandr Vikhor, Artsiom Parukau, Hennadz Shutau and Kanstantsin Shyshmakou related to the protests.

- does not recognize the results of the so-called presidential elections on August 9, 2020 and expresses its unequivocal support to the people of Belarus in their legitimate demands for an immediate end to authoritarian repression, respect for fundamental freedoms and human rights, and the holding of new, free and fair elections in accordance with international standards

- calls on the EU to support an international investigation into the crimes of the Lukashenka regime against the people of Belarus

- stresses that the measures taken by the European Union and its member states against the Lukashenka regime have so far been insufficient, and welcomes the decision of the European Council to work on a third package of sanctions against companies and oligarchs associated with the Lukashenka regime

The voting on the draft resolution is expected at 18:30 Minsk time.
