Belarusian Security Forces Call for New Elections

An open letter appeared.

An open letter from the Belarusian security officials has appeared on the Belarusian Internet today. In it, law enforcement officers call for new elections.

Here is the text of the letter:

"We, the undersigned, being current and former employees of Belarusian law enforcement agencies, bodies of control over compliance with legislation, and the national security in the Republic of Belarus, out of feelings of sincere patriotism and striving for justice, express our extreme concern about the deep political crisis in our country.

The obvious falsification of the results of the presidential elections in the Republic of Belarus on August 9, 2020 led to a complete legal default, split the Belarusian society, and endangered our country's independence and sovereignty. Unfair elections became the main reason for social chaos, the rapid loss of foreign policy influence, the destruction of economic potential, the fall of the sports and cultural image of the Republic of Belarus in the eyes of the entire world community.

We all know that the majority of us are worthy people and real professionals in our field. Nevertheless, a huge number of our colleagues were involved in the execution of criminal orders by a group of people illegally holding power in our country. Hiding behind slogans of patriotism, this group of people, violating the Constitution, defends their material interests exclusively, trying with their hands to suppress the Belarusian people's will in order to preserve their positions and illegally acquired property.

The legal default that takes place in our country leads to the devaluation of legal norms and simple human values. The actions of the leadership of a number of security and law enforcement agencies have led to our and our colleagues' discreditation in the eyes of society, causing an irreparable blow to the prestige of our profession.

To establish public order and return the Belarusian society to the legal field, guided by the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, its legislation, we, the undersigned, demand:

Recognize the presidential elections in the Republic of Belarus held on August 9, 2020 invalid due to numerous facts of fraud and pressure on election commissions.

Conduct new presidential elections in the Republic of Belarus in accordance with all international standards, with the fair and transparent formation of precinct election commissions and the CEC, counting of votes, admission of observers.

Conducting fair and transparent presidential elections in the Republic of Belarus is the only way out of the country's current crisis. It will allow to unite society, return the concept of "the rule of law" and stop illegal actions. It is not too late to restore the concept of legality and justice."

It is unclear how many signatures the appeal has collected at the moment. The Telegram channel, which circulated the open letter, claims that signatures are being collected so far behind closed doors "for greater security" and will be made public after exceeding the mark of one thousand signatures.
