MEPs canceled the meeting 15 minutes before its start.
The meeting of the European Parliament delegation with the Belarusian “deputies”, scheduled on February 26, has been canceled. It will not take place on the initiative of the European side, Chairman of the so-called permanent commission on international affairs of the lower “chamber” Andrei Savinykh told reporters, the website naviny.by reports.
“I regret to inform you that the planned meeting with the delegation of the European Parliament will not take place,” Savinykh said.
A source in the so-called Chamber of Representatives told BelaPAN that the Belarusian side had been notified of the cancellation of the meeting 15 minutes before its expected start.
The delegation of the European Parliament on February 24 arrived in Minsk. It includes deputy heads of the delegation of the European Parliament on relations with Belarus Valdemar Tomaševski (Lithuania) and Karin Karlsbro (Sweden), as well as the permanent rapporteur of the European Parliament on Belarus Piatras Austriavicius (Lithuania).
The purpose of the visit, which will last until February 28, is to familiarize the newly elected members of the European Parliament with the situation in the country, and the main areas of cooperation between the European Union and Belarus.
