Dzmitry Bandarenka: Dangerous Psycho Is in Power in Belarus

The coronavirus epidemic has demonstrated this to the world.

In an interview to Charter97.org, Dzmitry Bandarenka, coordinator of the European Belarus civil campaign, assessed the actions of the Belarusian authorities under the coronavirus pandemic declared by WHO.

- Why do the Belarusian authorities not even introduce quarantine in educational institutions, while democratic countries close borders and restrict contacts and movement of citizens within countries?

- The coronavirus pandemic has shown the world what the Belarusians have long known - a dangerous psycho is in power in Belarus. It's not accidental that our country is the only one in Europe with the death penalty. Human life means nothing to dictator Lukashenka.

The epidemic also shows that there are no real medical doctors with a civic position in Belarus. The recent mass trial on "Doctors' Case" and the general atmosphere in the country have intimidated the medical community so much that no medical professional has urged to introduce quarantine measures, as in Europe. Although even dictatorial China and Iran had to fight the coronavirus radically.

- Lukashenka says there is "no reason to panic" and is playing hockey. Why do the authorities of other countries act differently?

- Coronavirus COVID-19 is very dangerous. The statistics in Italy is striking: 15 thousand infected, more than a thousand dead, 1200 people are in intensive care.

The mortality rate for people over 65 is about 30%, as the coronavirus is extremely destructive to lung tissue. They say that some forms of influenza have similar statistics, but no one has cancelled the disease. Influenza also takes lives.

It turned out that even Italy lacked artificial ventilators... They were used for other patients. During the epidemic, it turned out that it was almost impossible to save many patients. This is the essence of quarantine measures - to save people, preventing the moment of a critical number of patients.

The Belarusian authorities do not care about it. There will be fewer pensioners, less spending on pensions.

However, the danger of creating a coronavirus hearth in the center of Europe will not go unnoticed in the world. The WHO and the authorities of neighbouring countries are already putting pressure on Lukashenka. Only time has already been wasted.

- What should the Belarusians do?

- To use every method for an immediate quarantine to be introduced, following the example of other countries. Also to save their lives and the lives of their loved ones by any means.
