"Authorities Are Hiding Information": Belarusians Addressed WHO Head

Tedros Adhanom has been informed about the real situation in our country.

Indignant at the inaction of the authorities during the Covid-2019 pandemic, Belarusians appealed to the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom. The petition is available at avaaz.org.

"We ask you to pay attention to the situation with Covid-2019 in Belarus. We have every reason to believe that the authorities of the country are hiding real information from both the population and the World Health Organization," - the petition reads.

The authors also note that the information, published by the Ministry of Health of Belarus, does not correspond to the real information, reported by health workers.

"Number of doctors treating infected patients reported (anonymously) that they were forced to sign non-disclosure papers. Medical staff are simply afraid to speak the truth openly. In a country’s 4th most populous city (Vitebsk), there are at least a thousand patients with pneumonia in the hospitals. Most of them have not been tested for the COVID-2019," - the authors of the document write.

The petition emphasizes that restaurants, parks and bars remain open in Belarus, mass sporting events are being held, the borders haven't been shut, the doctors do not have personal protective equipment in the required amount.

"Please help us to survive this pandemic with as few victims as possible. Because at the moment, based on the unofficial data that we can get from medical workers in different parts of Belarus, the number of infected people is growing, the death rate is growing (masked by other causes), it is only going to be worse and majority of population does nothing to stop the virus from spreading," - the petition says.

More than 9 thousand people have already signed the document. You can read it in full (in English) and sign it here.
