‘Basta!’: Coronavirus Suspicion Of Several Kids From Novyja Doktaravichy Village Confirmed

The children have been taken to the hospital in Barysau.

The son of the doctor from Kopyl, who is now hospitalized with the COVID-19 diagnosis, has told the ‘Basta!’ Telegram channel about the situation in the area. The name of the interlocutor has not been disclosed, but the editors of the channel know it.

- My mother saw a woman who had a confirmed coronavirus infection. Although everyone there was wearing face mask, this is not what we call proper protection, frankly speaking. A whole stream of people started coming from that village [Novyja Doktaravichy] to the hospital, all with pneumonia. Herein, not all of them had positive coronavirus tests.

As some time had passed after the contact, mother complained of sore muscles and high fever. For two days she had been suffering mostly of the sore muscles. On the third day, I persuaded her to go to the hospital for an X-ray. They supposedly saw a spot on her lung on the X-ray. By night, they finally decided to send her to Barysau. Once again, after I did my best to persuade them.

Medical staff are not willing to undergo hospitalization, as their salaries will drop if they take sick leaves. Moreover, there’s no one to work beside them. They feel responsibility about their work, contrary to the myths that queues in the clinics occur because doctors and nurses spend too much working time drinking tea.

Some people had the chills which passed quickly. Some had all the variety of symptoms, like my mother. But all doctors treat themselves, and of course, as it was already said in the media, they will simultaneously be treated, and continue working in hospitals, living there and taking all the necessary measures in order not to infect others.

According to my mother, everything seems peaceful in the Barysau infectious diseases hospital. Everyone stay in their wards. Nothing extraordinary.

As for the symptoms - she still has a 38.3 fever. Saturation is normal. They give her IVs. Everything goes like an ordinary flu treatment.

As for tests - in Kopyl, all the patients with the developing pneumonia, and all staff who could have contacted with the sick woman with confirmed coronavirus, were tested. The locals informed that the tests of several children from Doktaravichy came back positive.

There is one conclusion of all this: the doctors are working. There is not enough proper protection, more than just a face mask. However, it is hard to calculate here how many and which items every medical worker needs.

As for weird things - there has been absolutely zero instructions from the superiors initially. Also, they delivered just 15 sets of protective gear to the whole hospital. As for me, even ordinary raincoats for a penny per dozen would have sense. But, alas.

On Sunday morning, the woman’s test came back positive, and it became known that the hospital staff had symptoms, but they didn’t know whom to call, and what to do with it. I hope now decisions are taken faster.

Some patients from the Kopyl district remain in the therapeutic department of the Kopyl hospital, some - in Barysau, some - in Minsk. Other reserves are being freed. They said no one is now taken to the hospital in Barysau, as everything is crowded there. And if they do deliver new patients, they do it only at night, due to some reason.
