About 100 Cases Of Coronavirus Infection Registered At BelNPP

Rosatom has reported about it.

Rosatom has registered about 100 cases of COVID-19 at the site in Belarus, the head of the state corporation, Aleksei Likhachev, said in a video message, posted on the Rosatom website, tut.by reports.

- We have registered positive tests on the Belarusian site, this project is a special priority today. These are not only our employees, but also representatives of the Belarusian customer. All quarantine measures are observed, but I ask the NPP management to intensify the work even further. It's the hottest time there - in the coming weeks we plan to get a license and start production, at the same time protecting and saving the staff," - Aleksei Likhachev said.

We remind that in April it became known about 15 Russians working on the construction of the nuclear power plant, who according to preliminary data were diagnosed with coronavirus, and who were hospitalized in the Smarhon Hospital. They had no clinical manifestations. Level 1 contacts were also established - about 100 people who could have had contacts with the Russians.

As a result, the Russians proved to be healthy: their tests were double-checked several times - and all subsequent results were negative. Yesterday they were discharged from the Smarhon hospital.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Astravets with the help of a Russian loan under the standard Russian project VVER-1200. According to the forecast of the Ministry of Energy, after reaching full capacity the plant will produce more than 19 billion kWh of electricity annually.

The start-up time of the first power unit has been shifted many times. Energy Minister of Belarus Viktar Karankevich has recently said that the physical commissioning of the first unit is scheduled for June 2020, and the power one - for September - October.
