UN Supports Belarusians

A special appeal of the international experts to the Belarusian authorities.

Independent UN human rights experts have demanded that the Belarusian authorities stop the mass arrests of activists, journalists and bloggers and the brutal dispersal of peaceful demonstrators. Five special rapporteurs declared the inadmissibility of such actions on the eve of the so-called presidential election scheduled for August 9, writes un.org.

Special rapporteurs drew attention to the persecution of potential candidates for the presidency of Belarus.

The statement was signed by the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus Anais Marin and her colleagues, special rapporteurs on the rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of expression, independence of judges, and the rights of human rights defenders.
