Human rights activists demand from the Belarusian authorities to release Statkevich's comrade-in-arms immediately.

Activist of the Narodnaya Hramada party Siarhei Sparysh, against whom a criminal case has been filed under Part 1 Article 342 of the Criminal Code (organization or active participation in group actions, flagrantly violating public order), is recognized as a political prisoner by the human rights community of Belarus, Viasna informs.

In making this decision, human rights activists were guided by the previously adopted statements of the Belarusian human rights community of June 1, 9 and 11, 2020 on recognizing the defendants in "Tsikhanouski Case" as political prisoners.

Based on this, the Belarusian human rights activists demand from the Belarusian authorities to release Siarhei Sparysh immediately and stop the criminal proceedings against him.

Siarhei Sparysh was detained on June 25 by police officers in civilian clothes, they used physical force to get him out of the apartment. The reason for the detention was the earlier 15 day administrative arrest for laying flowers at the Military Cemetery of Minsk on May 8th. On July 9th , it became known that a criminal case was brought against him under part 1 of article 342 of the Criminal Code in connection with the events in Hrodna on May 29.

At present, Siarhei Sparysh is a suspect in this case and is kept in a temporary detention center in Minsk.
