BPR Rada Urges EU To Impose Sanctions Against Belarusian Authorities

The Rada has condemned the non-registration of candidates and demands immediate release of political prisoners.

The Rada of the Belarusian People's Republic condemned the non-registration of candidates opposing Lukashenka and demanded the immediate release of all activists, politicians, journalists and bloggers, detained on political grounds in Belarus, Belsat reports.

The non-registration of candidates demonstrates that the presidential elections in Belarus are neither free nor fair. Therefore, the BPR Rada calls for new presidential, parliamentary and local elections in the presence of international observers and in full compliance with international standards and democratic values. Lukashenka has no legal right to run for presidency in these elections.

"Democratic Europe should not tolerate the existence of a rigid authoritarian regime in a European country. The BPR Rada calls on all democratic countries to exert political and economic pressure on the authoritarian regime in Belarus to ensure free and fair elections," - the statement of the BPR Rada reads.
