Kupalausky Theater Joined the Strike

The theater will not show performances.

The Kupalausky theater team demanded to stop violence against civilians and called for a recount of votes with the participation of independent observers. This is stated in the text of the appeal, which is available tut.by. About 200 employees of the theater supported the appeal.

- We demand that all law security forces immediately stop violence against civilians who have a legitimate constitutional right to freedom of assembly and expression. Arbitrary detention without explanation and inexplicable brutality are a direct violation of the law.

Kupalausky's team believes that there are many reasons not to trust the results of the vote announced by the CEC. Therefore, it supports a peaceful dialogue and a recount of votes.

- At the moment, a simple step would help relieve the tension: an open and transparent recount of votes with the participation of independent observers, representatives of all presidential candidates and the public.

Kupalausky's team urged authorities to release all detainees.

- We are suspending performances until the current situation is resolved and initiating the procedure for declaring a strike. We very much hope for a peaceful solution to the situation, and that reason and law will prevail in our country.

The season at the Kupalovsky theater was to open on August 21 with the premiere of the play "En souvenir de Chagall", dedicated to the artist Marc Chagall.
