France, Germany and Poland Urge Minsk to "Respect the Will of Belarusians

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the three countries issued a joint statement.

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the three countries - Germany, France and Poland - expressed their concern about the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus and urged Minsk to hold them honestly. The joint statement was published on the website of the German Foreign Ministry.

"We are watching with great concern the situation in Belarus. <...> We strongly urge the Belarusian authorities to hold the upcoming elections freely and fairly, to ensure independent monitoring by local observers," says the statement.

The countries called on the Belarusian authorities to release "all prisoners, detained on political grounds," to renounce violence against "human rights, including civil and political freedoms, and respect the will of the Belarusian people".
