Mike Pompeo: Belarusian Protests Really Impress Us

The US Secretary of State has called on all countries, especially Russia, to respect the sovereignty of Belarus.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called on all countries, especially Russia, to respect the sovereignty of Belarus.

He said this at a briefing in Washington following a meeting with British Foreign Minister Dominique Raab.

"We also discussed the necessity for all countries, especially Russia, to respect the sovereignty of Belarus. Belarusian protests against rigged election results really impress us. The violence against them [demonstrators] must be stopped," - Pompeo said.

Pompeo also urged the Belarusian authorities to release the U.S. citizen Vital Shkliarau.

The U.S. Secretary of State added that the U.S. and European partners are working on sanctions against the Belarusian regime.
