Lithuanian Interior Minister: We Have No Information About Changes on the Belarusian-Lithuanian Border

Transport crosses the border without obstacles.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania (MIA) has no information about the alleged restrictions on the border between Belarus and Lithuania, said Lithuanian Minister of Internal Affairs Rita Tamašunienė, delfi.lt reports.

"At the moment, not a single outpost commander, not a single general has received information that something has changed between the border posts of Lithuania and Belarus, but we heard Lukashenka's statement, and the authorized representative from our State Border Guard Service was instructed to find out what actions are planned " - the minister told BNS on Thursday evening.

She said that transport crosses the border without obstacles.

The movement across the border with Belarus is proceeding as usual, the commander of the Lithuanian border service Rustam Lyubaev told BNS on Friday morning. "We do not yet have clarity; it would be difficult to expect that at night we will receive some kind of official message from our Belarusian colleagues, but the situation at the state border has not changed overnight: border crossing has not been stopped," said the commander of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) ...

"Of course, at night, the activity of crossing the border has slowed down a little, but vehicles and people are crossing the state border. So far, there are no special changes," he added. Lyubaev said that today the Lithuanian side will continue attempts to contact colleagues from Belarus in order to get more detailed information after Lukashenka's statements on the closure of Belarus's borders with the West, primarily with Lithuania and Poland.

According to the commander of the SBGS, neither the border guards of neighboring Poland, nor the heads of the Belarusian border service at the regional level received any information about the new regime at the border on Thursday evening.

Romas Austinskas, President of the Lithuanian National Association of Road Carriers Linava, told BNS on Thursday that the Belarusian border guards have been thoroughly, using X-rays, checking cars crossing the border from Lithuania for about two days.

Lyubaev said that on Friday morning, a small queue formed at the border: 180 trucks were waiting for departure, about 30 trucks from Belarus.

"There is nothing exceptional in this; we have such queues from time to time," he said.

On Thursday, Lukashenka said that Belarus is closing the border with the West and strengthening the protection of the state border with Ukraine, and also added that "half of the army" is sent to guard Western borders.
