The Belarusian Official Who Supported Protests Was Fired From Office In Yalta

The reason was the political views of Mikhail Zahortsau.

Belarusian Mikhail Zahortsau was dismissed from the post of deputy head of the Yalta city administration. As the agency "Kryminform" writes, the reason was that he supported the protests in Belarus.

"Yes, really (he was fired). His statements are incompatible with his tenure in this position," said the Yalta administration head, Ivan Imgrunt.

Zahortsau was the chairman of the Smaliavichy regional executive committee. After violently breaking up peaceful protests, he recorded a video supporting the protesters and condemning the violence by the security forces. The official said that his children have been participating in protests since the first day.

He also expressed the opinion that security officials from Russia could have taken part in dispersing the protests.

He spent a few days at the post of deputy mayor of Yalta in the annexed Crimea.
