Time Is Working Against Lukashenka

It is unlikely that the regime will stand for the next 50 days.

For 50 days in Belarus, hundreds of thousands of people have been fighting for their dignity, for the right to determine their own destiny, for the usurper Aliaksandr Lukashenka to be replaced by the president legally elected by the people. Fifty days of struggle. What's the bottom line?

1. The people did not keep silent, did not swallow the lies of the man who, having gained 20% of the vote by force, announced that he had gained 80%. People came out to protest, asserting their right to both human dignity and to rule their country. This was Lukashenka's first failure. He hoped that the protests would be marginal and would only embrace the rebellious intellectuals, but it turned out differently: almost the whole country, all its cities, and regions rose up against the usurper. There was no split into the west and east of Belarus, into town and country, into "bespectacled people" and the working class. Both in voting and protest, the people of Belarus unanimously opposed Lukashenka.

2. The enraged tyrant ordered to intimidate the rebellious people with torture and cruelty. In fact, he, a fan of the USSR, decided to revive the "red terror" in Belarus. But the incredible atrocities of the AMAP, which caused physical and mental harm to thousands of people, did not frighten Lukashenka's opponents but rallied them. The people were so determined that the tyrant had to release most of the detainees from the dungeons. He understood that if the torture continued, mass lynching would begin against the AMAP and government officials. Torture intimidation has failed and is no longer a widespread practice.

3. The tyrant hoped that people would get tired, put up with it, and go over to an obedient existence under his rule. It did not happen. Each Sunday rally in Minsk steadily gathers more than one hundred thousand people, 10% of the city's population, and rallies and processions are held in all cities. The people not only showed resolve in the early days of the protest, but they also maintain a steady high level of protest.

4. By provocations, Lukashenka hoped to call people to illegal actions - pogroms, beatings of the police, storming of government buildings. Then he could demand help from Russia. It did not happen. Hundreds of thousands of protesters display amazing restraint, which, combined with determination, makes the protest, although peaceful, unconquerable. The country's streets are filled with white-red-white flags - a symbol of a free democratic Belarus.

5. A powerful working class stands behind the protesters. He has already shown solidarity with the protests by rallies and strikes. In the event of forceful actions, the country faces a real indefinite general strike. The workers are determined to get rid of the tyrant.

6. The names of the security officials who beat and rape become known. Their lists and portraits, their addresses, and their families' composition are published on the Internet. Warning signs appear on their doors. They are famous. They are offered to either go over to the side of the people or at least take a neutral position. Otherwise - the court will soon. Judging by the activity of the security forces, moral pressure is starting to take effect. The power structures are becoming less decisive, and, apparently, many are beginning to shy away from participating in the suppression of protests. The army remains neutral for now. Generals and officers do not show any desire to protect the tyrant.

7. The shameful inauguration of Lukashenka showed that he has almost no supporters in the Belarusian society, that he is afraid of everyone and everything, and that he does not know whom to rely on in the world. FOr sure, not on Russia. He does not believe in Putin; he is afraid of Putin. Maybe, he can rely on China, but China is far away.

8. One by one, officials leave Lukashenka's sinking ship. Ambassadors refuse to serve him. This process will intensify against the background of the worldwide non-recognition of Lukashenka's inauguration as president. Other tyrants recognized Lukashenka; democratic peoples did not recognize him and will not recognize him.

9. Time certainly works against Lukashenka. The people hate him and will never get used to him again. More and more people in power are aware of this. Thus, a peaceful but unrelenting protest washes the ground from under the feet of tyranny. It should soon fall. It is unlikely that it will stand for the next 50 days.
