The Polish Ethnological Society turned to the Belarusians.

The oldest Polish Ethnological Society, founded in 1895, issued an open letter to Belarusian scientists and students, in which they expressed solidarity with the Belarusian academic community, Radio Svaboda reports.

"Brutal physical violence, beatings, arrests, the invasion of armed groups into the territory of universities, the restriction of the possibilities of science and labor - we have been observing all this since the beginning of the academic year in Belarusian academic institutions throughout the country.

This is all the more outrageous because the meaning of the existence of such institutions lies precisely in the freedom of scientific research and exchange of opinions. They were created for the sake of discussions with the help of arguments, and not with police truncheons," the letter says.

It also notes that the Polish ethnological society "with a sense of sincere admiration" observes the peaceful struggle of Belarusians for truth and freedom, "for the right to independently decide the fate of both the entire region and their own," expresses solidarity to them and emphasizes that they believe in the victory of the Belarusians: that they will "force the former president to leave," release all political prisoners and organize new, free, and fair elections.

"Today you are showing the whole world how to preserve human and civil dignity in the face of the merciless power of the usurper, which not only trampled on democracy but also opposed the rights of a human and the entire people," the letter says.
