The new U.S. leader should act unexpectedly for the dictator.

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden should punish Lukashenka's "wallets." Stanford University professor and former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, whose article was published by the authoritative American edition of Foreign Affairs, called for this.

Michael McFaul writes that the United States with the new president will not build relationships with Lukashenka. The scholar believes that the Biden administration should punish all those who continue to abuse peaceful protesters in Belarus, as well as the economic players who support and profit from these crimes.

According to Michael McFaul, the U.S. leader should act unexpectedly for Lukashenka - i.e. he should not focus on Belarusian judges and low-ranking officials of security agencies, but on those who have the real power to control processes in Belarus.

We remind that on December 28, 2020, Donald Trump signed the "Act on Democracy, Human Rights and Sovereignty of Belarus". Within 90 days after the adoption of the document, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, Secretary of State and the head of intelligence were ordered to prepare a report on Lukashenka's assets. It will contain information about bank accounts, investments and other business interests of Lukashenka and his family members.
