Lukashenka appointed Aliaksandr Volfovich Secretary of State of the Security Council today, BelTA informs.

By now, Aliaksandr Volfovich has been Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces - First Deputy Minister of Defense.

The position of Secretary of State at the Security Council has been vacant since Valery Vakulchik, who occupied the post for less than two months, was appointed assistant to Lukashenka - inspector of Brest region in October 2020.

Aliaksandr Volfovich was born in Kazan in 1967. In 1988, he graduated from the Moscow Military General Command School. In 1998, he graduated from the command and staff department of the Military Academy of Belarus. In 2008, he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

He began his military career in 1988 in the Turkestan Military District. Since 1993, he has served in the Armed Forces of Belarus. He took various positions in the training centre for warrant officers and junior specialists (1993-2001), in the Defense Ministry's security and maintenance base (2001-2005), and in the Armed Forces General Staff and the North-Western Operational Command's brigade (2005-2010).

From 2010 to 2012, he was Deputy Commander of the Troops of the Western Operational Command. Since 2012, he was Chief of Staff - First Deputy Commander of the troops of the North-Western Operational Command. Since 2015, he was appointed Commander of these troops. In 2018, he took the position of First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. In January 2020, he was appointed Chief of the General Staff.
