Minsk Footballers Left as a Sign of Solidarity With the Fired Coach

Former head coach of the team Aliaksandr Lukhvich is one of those who signed the letter for the new elections.

Aliaksandr Lukhvich will no longer be the head of the leading women's football club in Belarus - Minsk. The contract with him was not renewed, and the signatory of the pro-government letter, Uladzimir Shyndzikau, was appointed to his position, sports journalist Dzmitry Siniak said on his Telegram channel about women's football.

Lukhvich, who during his player career played in the center of defense of the Belarusian national team and became famous for his matches for the Russian Torpedo from Moscow, was a coach first in men's teams, and at the end of 2017 headed the women's club Minsk. Since then, he led the club to the championship title in Belarus twice and led the team to the Champions League matches.

In the fall, Lukhvich - by the way, a graduate of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - signed a letter to the sports community for ending the violence, investigating the torture of peaceful protesters, and calling for new presidential elections.

Minsk lost not only a coach - all the players over 19 years old left the team. They will be replaced by the players of the women's national team of Belarus, most of whom studied at the Minsk football school.
