Unsuccessful Meeting In Sochi: Curtain Slightly Ajar

The long silence regarding the content of the closed meeting with Putin indicated that it was not very successful for Lukashenka. This was confirmed by his prognosis of a “difficult year” upon arrival in Minsk, as well as the reshuffle and even the promised reformatting of the work of the Security Council, writes the “Mythology of Belarus” Telegram channel.

Lukashenka’s comments today (8 days passed!) on the Sochi meeting naturally put everything in a positive light: “no one asked for additional loans; we don't need any”.

However, even a careful camouflaging of the questions and results of the meeting revealed that the situation is not rosy: the Kremlin does not give loans for a “thanks you”, and continues to insist on some new stage of integration plus concessions in the military sphere.

The assumption that the Kremlin will revive the topic of the Russian military airbase in Belarus and insist on the “road maps” of integration has been fully confirmed. “Give us these planes. But on these planes, as then, Russians and Belarusians should fly together ”. This phrase from today's meeting clearly indicates that Putin has returned to the topic of the airbase.

Lukashenka also confirmed that Putin did not drive the integration road maps under the rug. On the contrary, he insists on their finalization, especially in the tax area.

Tax policy is the very essence of state sovereignty, it defines the exclusive powers of the country to form the state treasury and determine the sources of its replenishment. The deprivation of an independent tax policy based on the real needs of the population and economic subjects of the country means the erosion of state sovereignty, no matter how hard the propaganda tries to declare the opposite.

Instead of informing Belarusians about the current situation with the integration roadmaps, Lukashenka preferred to inform the audience in detail about the sugar trade topic discussed with Putin. Soviet classics - the most important questions are hushed up and replaced by the topics of 10th or 20th importance.
