The Retired Strategist Urgently Needs Generals
Uladzimir Khalip

Escape doesn't tolerate fuss.

So, it was decided: the main bunker will not be deepened. Not only because of the acute shortage of working capital. Not because the terrible danger was suddenly over. Not at all!.. But simply for the reason that the security forces have resolutely entered into power. They already dictate everything, including the general trend. And now the organizer and mastermind of a particularly strict regime has someone to consult with. And therefore, they began to hold meetings much more often - there are such times. And at meetings in a wide and narrow circle, siloviki of all stripes prevail. It was they who suggested that the dull fuss with the bunker in such a stressful situation does not make any sense. It is better to start regulating financial flows, which is customary for security officials. It's profitable and cheerful. And the bunker is nonsense, a mirage.

It has long been known to everyone how skillfully and almost instantly the great commanders of new times Saddam and Muammar knew how to burrow into the sand of their native deserts. The forces and means were not spared for the daily strengthening of the court bunkers. It seemed that the armor was so strong and the concrete was so reliable that no one would ever dare to threaten them. However, unforgiving time passed a different verdict. And the best friends of the local lover of impregnable borders and fierce guards in the corners went to that serene world where they do not need either a chic bunker or a squalid hole.

This is not to say that all attempts to create a personal safety zone were naive and in vain. Many ideas and developments have been successful. And even the mechanical structure of the mass investigation, created in a hurry after the August elections, works crudely, stupidly, but effectively. According to the general scheme and the specific scheme. People in the yards and alleys are chased by some guys that vaguely resemble robots. They grab people. They detain people. It seems that everything is stitched and covered. And there is no long-awaited effect. Even among Kremlin cynics, cheerful reports of deflated protests only evoke a snide smile. And at the local level, there is generally a blockage. And the quite understandable desire to curry favor and serve only causes new bursts of outright idiocy.

For some reason, the well-known pensioners who were detained on the train on the way to Maladzechna and then taken to the "right" place, did not want to draw proper conclusions from what had happened for some reason. And they sent a collective letter to the administration of the Maskouski district of Minsk. They asked a seemingly simple but tricky question: is it possible to read Belarusian books on trains?

The answer was not long in coming. Reading books by Belarusian writers (achtung! ..) is not prohibited. But the optimists are asked to recklessly refrain from dancing. Revelry of regime democracy has not yet been provided. The next paragraph of the administrative response to the applicants stated that it was a completely different matter if such a reading was related to the well-known law on public events. You have to come up with something like that! If someone has opened a book in the carriage, it is imperative to look back. Is there someone reading nearby? Otherwise - jail. And the whole set of regime benefits.

Was this a single case? A common display of bureaucratic zeal? Don't jump to conclusions. Just now, in Vaukavyssk, law enforcement officers broke into the room where Mova Nanova was conducting her usual classes. They seized everyone, including the Orthodox priest who happened to be there. All were taken to the police. Nothing extraordinary. There are such times. Losing an election is not at all the same as losing a bet in a casino. Everything changes imperceptibly. However, the police are already not enough for the intimidated authorities. In addition, another four thousand soldiers are required. And the generals to boot, how can we go without them?

And here they are all assembled. Recently recruited generals and other veterans of the highest feast. The few civilians in this strict ensemble create a dissonance that is no longer quite appropriate. However, hired TV propagandists are not on the first day at the court service. They know clearly who to shoot and from what angle. The avaricious reports fully convey to the viewers a sense of the indissoluble unity of those at the table with those at the head of this meeting. Here it is, a reliable bulwark of the system of popular elections with a predetermined outcome. For what we fought for, it happened. They sit, skillfully hold a pause.

Unrestrained gilding, which the head of these gatherings allegedly does not like, permeates the frame. The abundance of curls is simply overwhelming. Messed up nouveau style, Versailles with a trailer. The people dreamed about this when they were building communism. And how organically the vertical community fits into this interior. Generals and those in civilian clothes who have not yet ranked up. But they definitely will, this is out of the question. The man at the head of the table desperately needs generals. A lot of generals. Preferably with truncheons. Otherwise, how to keep the chair taken last summer as a trophy.

Those who are in uniform and stripes jump up briskly, report something. The civilians are trying to keep up. And even the ladies, stretching themselves to the edge, demonstrate a deep knowledge of the charter. The mysterious word "safety" performs its intricate dance in front of the television cameras. And only the one to whom all this is addressed arrogantly holds a pause. He does not exchange for trifles. He has global concerns.

Why not put a heavy machine gun over there, at the end of the table? Like Un's North Korean counterpart in misfortune. Not for self-interest, but just like that. To emphasize the special significance of the moment. After all, his claims to life-long possession of this ill-fated chair will not end well anyway. Sooner or later, they will come here and ask, and who is illegitimate here? And it's scary even to think how many witnesses there can be in such a case!

So isn't it easier now to rivet an armored train with a pool and Komsomol girls from BMZ waste according to the old schemes, like that of the same Kim? And to drive at full steam aimlessly. Until it's not too late.

Escape doesn't tolerate fuss.
