The towns are twinned.

The mayor of the Polish town of Płock has sent a letter to the chairman of the Navapolatsk City Executive Committee, Dzmitry Dziamidau, condemning the use of force against peaceful protesters, Radio Svaboda reports.

Polish Płock is a twin town of Belarusian Navapolatsk.

In the letter, Płock Mayor Andrzej Nowakowski has expressed concern about "the situation of common citizens and independent media in Belarus."

"The recent sentence to two Belsat journalists shows how dramatic your situation is, - the mayor of the Polish town addresses to the residents of Navapolatsk. - The Belarusian special services, on the orders of the authorities, are repressing and trying to intimidate the residents, who continue to fight for freedom and democracy after the elections."

"I want to assure Navapolatsk residents that the residents of the partner town of Płock in Poland support their desire for freedom and are in full solidarity with them," - Andrzej Nowakowski writes.
