Interesting Mural Appeared In Smallest Town Of Belarus

Photo Fact.

Perhaps the largest portrait of famous artist Yazep Drazdovich (1888-1954) has appeared in Disna, the smallest town in Belarus. It can be found on the house in 27 Yubileinaya Street, "Protection of Native Birds" writes.

The sketch for the graffiti was created by street artist Ales Kontra, and his colleague Yauhen Sasiura painted the wall. This is not their first work in the district: last year Ales Kontra created a stylized carpet in Miory, on which you can see 10 sights of the district. He painted a store in the village of Perabrodze with the original pattern of Miory, and the building of a former sawmill - with a scene of nature and life in the style of double weaving.

These works have appeared within the framework of the project which is realized by the Miory District Executive Committee, public organization "Protection of Native Birds" and the Latvian Rural Forum with financial support of the European Union.

- In order to develop the concept of graffiti, I started looking for materials on the history of Disna region, - Ales says. - There were many ideas, but it seemed to me that the best concept was to perpetuate the memory of Drazdovich, who began his studies at the Disna High School and stepped onto the path of an artist by sketching the local scenery. Yazep Drazdovich traveled a lot, but he often returned here. He not only drew graphic landscapes from life here, but also recorded for dictionaries the folk vocabulary of the region, folklore, made a collection of "Songs of Disna". I added some celestial objects from basic astronomy, a science that influenced Drazdovith. The landscape in the sketch belongs to Drazdovich; it is his native place of Punki, where he was born and lived as a child.

- I put my signature at the very end, so passers-by often asked me who I was drawing, - Yauhen Sasiura says. - Most people didn't know who Drazdovich was. But a few people did recognize him. One granny even said that she had seen him as a child, painting some cloth, and described what he looked like in detail.
