Details of the Accident at Hrodna Azot Have Become Known

According to one of the versions, the emergency is connected with the leakage of liquid sulfur.

Yesterday, an emergency happened at the JSC Hrodna Azot enterprise: during the discharge of liquid sulfur, part of the chemical spilled from the tank. It happened around 11:20 am, writes Hrodna Chemist.

According to the technological process, before draining liquid sulfur from tanks, it is preheated. Sulfur is a highly viscous substance; at high temperatures, it expands, and sulfur gases are released. And in the process of warming up, a small amount of sulfur was released through the top hatch.

At the same time, 15–20 kg of sulfur fell on the electric heating heaters, causing insignificant smoke pollution. The production dispatcher called the Ministry of Emergency Situations, an emergency gas rescue team, and an ambulance (these units go to all emergencies of this kind). The melt spill was localized, and the smoke was eliminated. The problem tank was towed by the railway service to the technological sump.

According to the general director of the enterprise, Ihar Liashenka, no one was injured during the incident, no harm was done to the environment, no deviations in the gas-air environment were recorded. The shift personnel worked in standard protective equipment. The incident did not affect the volume of products and the technological process in any way, there was no material damage.

Information on the presence of chemicals in the atmospheric air of the sanitary protection zone of the enterprise is still unknown since the data on the site has not been updated since April 2.
