EU Ambassadors Agreed On Fourth Package Of Sanctions Against Lukashenka's Regime

The restrictions and freezing of assets will affect 78 people and 7 organizations.

Permanent representatives of the EU countries agreed on restrictive measures against Lukashenka's regime in connection with the incident with the Ryanair flight and the authorities' crimes against citizens.

Visa restrictions and freezing of assets will affect 78 people and 7 organizations. This was reported on Twitter by the Brussels-based RFE/RL journalist Rikard Jozwiak.

For this new sanctions package to take effect, it must be formally approved by the EU Council at the ministerial level. This is expected to happen on June 21, at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.

This package of the EU sanctions has been developed for a long time, but its enactment was accelerated after the incident with the forced landing of the Ryanair aircraft in Minsk.

We remind that on June 10, the European Parliament approved a resolution on Belarus. Apart from political statements, the resolution also refers to the economic sanctions. In particular, the resolution welcomed the disconnection of banks from SWIFT and sectoral sanctions against oil refining, potash and other industries.
