EU Agrees Upon Economic Sectoral Sanctions Against Lukashenka Regime

They can be introduced before the end of the week.

EU ambassadors agreed on economic sectoral sanctions against the Lukashenka regime, including the financial sector, potash exports, and refined petroleum products. The sanctions can be imposed before the end of the week.

This was reported to TASS by a diplomatic source in Brussels.

“The Committee approved economic sectoral restrictive measures against Belarus. They will be approved by the EU Council by a written procedure for the meeting of the European Council [EU summit on June 24-25],” said a TASS source.

On Monday, the introduction of sectoral sanctions was supported by the EU foreign ministers at a meeting in Luxembourg.

According to Head of the Luxembourg Foreign Ministry Jean Asselborn, the matter concerns, in particular, restrictions on the export of potassium, petrochemical products to the EU, and sanctions against the financial sector of Belarus.

Earlier, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said that sectoral sanctions against official Minsk could affect 7 sectors of the economy, including oil and potash fertilizers.

The package of sanctions will also include restrictions against the financial sector - a ban on loans, operations with securities and investment services.
