Expert Explained What Lukashenka Became For China

The project involving the dictator is no longer the Silk Road.

Former Charge d'Affaires of Belarus in Switzerland, expert of the Center for New Ideas Pavel Matsukevich told the BP website how the conflict with the West "nullified" Lukashenka's regime for China:

- Can China, India, Latin America, Asia and Africa replace the Western vector for the Belarusian regime?

- These countries are home to the overwhelming majority of the world's population. This market has great potential. However, Belarus has no funds to develop it properly, and we cannot compete without Western investments and technologies: local tigers, as far as Asia is concerned, produce goods cheaper and of higher quality.

The value of Belarus in the Silk Road is that it is a transit point to the West and vice versa.

"The Silk Road and projects like the Great Stone turn into a silk fart without normal relations with the West, into yuan and rubles buried in a picturesque place near Minsk.

New markets hold serious potential; they certainly must be entered and explored. However, without normal relations with the West, Belarus's opportunities there are extremely limited.
