Latvia Demanded From Minsk to Release Political Prisoners

Riga will continue to support the Belarusian people.

The Belarusian authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia called on the Belarusian authorities to release political prisoners and stop violence against civil society and independent media.

“Latvia will continue to support the Belarusian people who have been peacefully demanding free and fair elections for a year now,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The Latvian Foreign Ministry retweeted a comment from the European External Action Service on July 29, which says that “after the rigged elections on August 9, 2020, the Lukashenka regime repressed Belarusians”, and the EU “applied sanctions against the regime's accomplices and prepared an ambitious economic plan for a democratic Belarus.”
