European Commission: We Are Faced With Act Of Aggression By Lukashenka Regime

Absolute majority of migrants arriving in Lithuania are not refugees.

The European Union considers the situation with migrants at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border to be a provocation by the Lukashenka regime. This was stated at a press conference by the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs Ylva Johansson, who arrived in Lithuania for a visit. The press conference was broadcast on the EU website.

“We are faced with an act of aggression by the Lukashenka regime aimed at provocation. This is not just a migration crisis, it is an act of aggression with the aim of provocation,”Johansson said.

The European Commissioner noted that the situation is getting worse. “More and more people are arriving. This is absolutely unacceptable,” she said.

“This is a provocation by the Lukashenka regime, it is absolutely unacceptable. And we must make it clear that there is no free access to the EU territory. Lithuania, the EU, and the Schengen countries must block illegal access to the Schengen area. Therefore, we, the entire European Union, support Lithuania to defend our common border with Belarus,” Johansson said.

The European Commissioner noted that FRONTEX employees have already been sent to Lithuania to help, and more employees will soon arrive. Also, in the near future, the European Commission will send a delegation to Lithuania, which will discuss in detail with the Lithuanian side the financing of the border protection system.

Johansson said that the majority of migrants arriving in Lithuania are not refugees. According to her, such people should be sent home. The European Commissioner also noted that everything possible must be done to prevent the arrival of planes with migrants in Minsk.
