Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Allows For Complete Freeze Of Transit Of Belarusian Potash
GABRIELIUS LANDSBERGIS

Vilnius has made a proposal to extend sanctions.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis allows for a complete cessation of transit of Belarusian potash fertilizers. According to him, there have already been sent proposals to the European Union to extend the sectoral sanctions against the Belarusian regime, reports Delfi.

Landsbergis notes that the EU sanctions, imposed in June, cover about 20% of the transit. We remind that potassium chloride with 40% to 62% content of potassium oxide, which is the main fertilizer, did not fall under them.

"This means that there is a small hit, but it does not apply to the entire cargo flow. Now Lithuania has made a proposal to extend sanctions - including sectoral sanctions. We haven't mentioned which ones are the exact ones, but it's probably logical to understand that this sector is likely to be covered as well. That means more potash would be added and that the cargo flow would be reduced," he told reporters.

Later, he was more specific, allowing for a complete halt in shipments.

"A complete shutdown is possible. I would say that yes, it is realistic. The real negotiations haven't started yet, so it's too early to talk about it," he said.
