Boomerang Effect: Belarus Sports Minister Fouled Up

Accusations against Viktoryja Azaranka turned into claims against Siarhei Kavalchuk himself.

Minister of Sports Siarhei Kavalchuk was outraged by the decision of Viktoryja Azaranka not to go to the Olympics in Tokyo as part of the national team of Belarus, reports Salidarnasts.

Here is what the official said, verbatim.

"It's not so much the results, as the way Viktoryja Azaranka has acted. She refused to participate unexpectedly. When Roger Federer is not coming to the Olympics, I can understand it: he won his gold in Beijing 2008 and has won so many cups in his career that not every museum can hold them. But what was Azaranka guided by?

Such behavior doesn't honor Azaranka either as an athlete or as a person, not to mention as a citizen of her country ... Her thirst or even greed for money has created a consumer attitude towards the state, which has invested and continues to invest a lot of money in the development of athletes".

Comparing Azarenka to Federer was an obvious foul-up on the part of the sports minister. He seems to be unaware that the tennis player won gold for Belarus at the 2012 Olympics in London, where she won the mixed doubles tournament with Maksim Mirny.

For this reason, sports fans has made new claims to the Minister of Sports: the competence of Lukashenka's former security guard has been questioned even more.

It should be noted that in spite of the most unsuccessful result of the Belarusian national team since the Olympics in Tokyo, Siarhei Kavalchuk has remained in his position. The Minister of Sport continue the streak: blaming the athletes and coaches.

In the meantime, track and field athlete Krystsina Tsimanouskaya will compete for Poland, and rider Volha Safronava, who was not allowed to take part in the Olympics because of her civil position, has also left Belarus.
