Lithuania has created an opportunity for Belarusians to ask for asylum at the country's embassy in Belarus.

This is provided in the decree, signed by Deputy Foreign Minister Arvydas Anušauskas on Tuesday, reports Delfi.

"Asylum applications from foreign citizens may be filed at the embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the Republic of Belarus," reads the document, which came into force on Wednesday.

The possibility of applying for asylum in diplomatic missions of Lithuania is provided by the amendments to the law on the legal status of foreigners, adopted on August 10, but in reality it was not applied until the Ministry of Foreign Affairs adopted a legislative act on this provision.
