Who's Starting?

It is enough to stop Hrodna Azot and a number of enterprises will automatically stop working.

Belarusians from many enterprises and state organizations are participating in the campaign "Let There Be A Strike" («#Стачке быть»). Today the whole country knows about the pre-strike situation.

What do Belarusians think about the worker protest? The Charter97.org website has gathered readers' opinions:

"We should all go on strike sweepingly! Don't just sit back and wait for someone to stand up for you! There were strikes in Poland in the 1970s and 1980s. The Communists tried to suppress the strikes and put pressure on the workers. In the end, the Polish workers regained the right to strike and tossed out the anti-people regime on its butt! Strikes are allowed in all developed countries with a decent way of life and workers actively exercise their right to strike! There are no strikes in North Korea, Russia, Cuba and the rest of the dregs of civilization! A strike is a real way to achieve higher wages, better working conditions and to draw attention to the problems of workers. If you don't go on strike, you won't be "seen" by whip crackers - bosses, and other bloodsuckers. The main bloodsucker in Belarus is the state, the sycophantic trade unions and other crooks! It's time to speak up and stand up for ourselves!"

"I fully support the strike movement and all those involved in it. Indeed, this is what will happen in the country, whomever starts first, will be joined by all the other enterprises, and the whole country. And one can start by writing an application for a two week vacation at his own expense because of the dangerous epidemiological situation in the midst of the pandemic and the coming new wave of coronavirus infection. You can also say, referring to poor health, that you need a check-up. Keep in touch with your workers, and also then announce on social networks that we have all gone on strike. Then the strike movement will grow. Our demands remain unchanged! This is the freedom of all political prisoners - to each and every one of them, with their full rehabilitation, as well as the dismissal of all illegitimate authorities. Our strength is only in unity, friends! One together and all for one! Our side will win!! Long live Belarus!"

"It's enough for Azot alone to go on strike and several enterprises connected with it will automatically stop working. A couple of flagships will go on strike and the all-hands evolution will begin. It's time, my friend, it's time."

"A good manager at a large enterprise deserves more than two cottages in Listapadavichy, but questions remain. Is the manager really that good, if there are so many problems at Belaruskali, accidents have become the norm, and the enterprise's profit has dropped 13 times? Who and why appointed a 38-year old engineer, by no means a genius, to the position of general director of the largest mining enterprise in the world in 2014? Why was it necessary to register the property in Listapadavichy to the wife-psychologist? Or is she a Freud herself? What does a psychologist at Belaruskali do at all? Does she find out the opponents of the authorities so that they can be fired in time? So, they have fired them. Now you can eat your problems yourself and get out of the swamp on your own! And they have been stealing there for decades, under both Kiryjenka and Halavaty."

"People must understand that the strike is our last chance to save Belarus from the Russian takeover. The bastard is openly selling Belarus, and the delay is playing against us! This autumn must be the last for the system! We can clearly see that the LukaWehrmacht is terrified of the people's strike. You can see that by the way the propaganda has been creaking lately! They can no longer hide the truth that the economy has cracked and is now on the verge of collapse - the stores are gradually running out of goods. The refrigerator is starting to beat the TV! In addition, the coronavirus pandemic has shown its face really badly, a new outbreak of the disease is playing an additional role in the boiling of the nation. The situation is very similar to last year's spring, only now the people are additionally enraged by the lawlessness of the authorities".

"And isn't inflation, high prices, falling wages, the no increase in the standard of living, but only a constant decline a reason to go on strike? A strike is the way out!"

"If there is a strike, there will be an end to the regime. If over 80% are against the regime, they no longer have the human resources to resist. What resources? Cops, prosecutors, judges and a bunch of supporters of Lukashenka? The most avid criminals will flee. Let Luka take them all with him, they have served him. I will not pay for their service with increased pensions. At the last moment on strike, the regime will just scatter away."

"Visitation is planned, the crack is planned, the production shutdown is planned... And at the nuclear power plant: the ceremonial pressing of the red button is planned, the explosion of transformers is planned, the emergency shutdown of the reactor is planned. Isn't it disgusting?"

"In Soviet times I met the director of the Homel superphosphate plant, Shestakou. He used to wear a sweatshirt and first thing in the morning he used to go around the shops, he was a real director. He was replaced by Babkin, an office director. I used to have a drink with Kaluhin, designer of Hrodna Azot nitric acid production under the pressure of 7.2 atmospheres. Belarus was the strongest republic of USSR, but has been ruined by psychopath Lukashenka for 25 years. Other republics would last only 10-15 years".

"The illiteracy of the heads of the most important services of Belaruskali is sometimes off the scale, as well as their self-confidence. They would get on your nerves and suck your blood, till you prove something to them. Sometimes, they deliberately put a spanner in the works of their executors in order to get something done, but without paying for it. Often, pretending to be naive, they are looking for simpletons who will agree to close the gap without payment. They know how to press, and sometimes the contractor has nowhere to turn to. They pretend to be dumb when you point out the gross errors of "innovative" projects, and can speak offensively. Sometimes they deceive bluntly and not even feeling embarrassed. To deal with them - it is not to respect yourself."

"It seems to me that there is no point in waiting for a certain X-hour. Any company can start even today. It is time to take the first step. Who's starting?" - a Charter97.org reader concludes.
