Death On New Year's Eve: Belarusian Beaten And Killed After Being Detained By Police

The resident of Rechytsa was 27 years old.

Resident of Rechytsa, 27-year-old Dzmitry Uskhopau, was beaten by the police and died in the hospital on the night of December 31 to January 1.

“Flagstaff” asked the relatives of the deceased to tell in detail about the tragedy.

“At 23.00 in the city center, at the Detsky Mir bus stop, Dzmitry and his friends wanted to go to Rhythm to celebrate the New Year with his mother. They were drunk. Public security police officers approached them, according to eyewitnesses, Dzmitry showed disobedience. They called a patrol with a vehicle for help. About five more people arrived in the car.

Dzmitry was taken to the police department. There they either interrogated and beat him, or hit him in the head once, or maybe or fired from pneumatics, I do not know for certain. He lost consciousness at the police department, they poured water over him there, tried to reanimate him, and some of his clothes [turned out] to be torn. They brought him already with a half-naked torso and a jacket on top. Hair, body, clothes - everything was wet, it is still wet in the morgue.

He was admitted to the Central Regional Hospital in a coma, according to the therapist - they tried to reanimate him with adrenaline and heart massage, but time was lost. They sent him to the morgue, and in the morning of January 1st, 2022 they made an urgent autopsy under a fake resolution of the investigator. We were allowed to enter the morgue. The head of the forensic medical examination department came and called the investigator, they showed us the body.

There are visible bruises and hematomas on the wrists and knees, and there is a round wound on the head. He underwent an autopsy of the craniocerebral box and abdominal cavity.

Clinical death was recorded already upon admission, officially after the resuscitation measures by the Central District Hospital staff at 01.20 am on January 1, 2022.”

At present, the police are putting pressure on the mother of the deceased - according to relatives, the police are going to conduct a search in her apartment.

Anatol Vasilyeu, first deputy chief of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Homel Regional Executive Committee, said that on New Year's Eve, the police had been transferred to a high-security regime, and that “no emergencies, offenses or crimes had been committed in the places of mass events.”

Judging by the information from Uskhopau’s VKontakte page, the guy in 2018-2019 worked at the Rechitsagaz PU, and played mini-football for the company. Friends express condolences to the family of the deceased. Dzmirty had a 5-year-old daughter.
