Ministry Of Health Making Lame Excuses As For Medical Staff Shortage

Doctors are actively leaving the country.

The Ministry of Health told how Belarus is provided with medical staff. According to the agency, this year there are on average the same number of doctors in our country as there were last year. According to the presented statistics, the staffing level is 94.2% with doctors and 97% with nurses. It is also noted that the staff turnover in healthcare is low. At the same time, the department did not explain why the country is losing doctors and nursing staff (in addition to the retirement of specialists).

According to the agency's estimates, more than 48,000 doctors and 112,500 nurses are currently working in the Belarusian healthcare system. At the same time, there are 55.2 doctors per 10 thousand of the population, and 120.7 nurses. The Ministry of Health claims that in the EU there are fewer doctors per the same number of people — 33.4, and in the CIS — 38.1. There are also fewer medical staff than we have: in the EU — 86.8, in the CIS — 62.

It was noted that in the regions, medical institutions are staffed unevenly: in the Brest and Hrodna regions this figure is higher than the national average, in the Vitsebsk region and Minsk it is lower. In the Homel region, the number of personnel is at the level of the national average. In the Mahiliou and Minsk regions, the indicator is lower only for doctors, for paramedical workers — it remains at the level of the national average.

The Ministry of Health believes that staff turnover in the industry meets an acceptable level — 3-8%. For medical specialists, the turnover is 7.05%, for nurses — 5.6%. It is reported that in 2021 there were 495 fewer practicing medical specialists, of which 276 retired. Last year, 1,241 workers from the nursing staff were also taken away, 260 of them are pensioners. For what reasons the rest of the doctors left, the department does not specify.

Over the past year, thanks to a simplified employment procedure, about 1,000 doctors from Belarus and the same number from Ukraine arrived in Poland, as zerkalo.io recalls. This was previously reported by the Minister of Health of the country Adam Nedzielski.
