Viktar Khrenin

Lukashenka's minister has imagined "threats" from Poland, the Baltic States and Ukraine.

Belarus is ready to deploy a regional grouping of troops to defend the "Union State" allegedly against threats from neighboring countries.

"We can't exclude the emergence of a real threat of fomenting internal conflict in Belarus with further external intervention in its resolution by the West, from the territory of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine," said Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Khrenin, BelTA informs.

According to him, in such conditions Belarus' policy is aimed at "counteracting modern military threats". To this end a number of measures have been taken.

"Necessary decisions have been taken to ensure collective security. A regional grouping of troops and forces of Belarus and Russia is ready for deployment and carrying out armed defence tasks of the union state. Military command agencies of all levels are conducting a comprehensive analysis of the emerging situation on our borders on a systematic basis. We are also working out options to respond adequately to its changes," Khrenin added.
